Useful commands

STARTING THE TCS (warm start)

  1. Telnet to the appropriate TCS computer:
    lpas1 (JKT), lpas2 (INT), lpas3 (backup), lpas4 (WHT)
  2. At the prompt: TCS_LOGIN
  3. Password: ******** (on teminal)
  4. Type: start at the prompt.

RE-STARTING THE WHT TCS FROM THE ICL

  1. At the TCS computer, type: eng to return to engineers mode
  2. Type: tcsexit
  3. At the ICL terminal, type: tinit

RE-BOOTING ANY TCS COMPUTER (cold start)

  1. LAT to the appropriate DEC ALPHA from an xterm.
  2. Login: shut
  3. Password: ********
  4. Follow the prompts to shut down the system.
  5. To re-boot the system, type: boot at the TCS computer console.

LOGGING ENCODERS

This is used for fault finding.

  1. At the TCS window, type: log enc on
  2. All encoders will now be logged.
  3. To stop logging, type log enc off
  4. Logs can be viewed using TCS plot command

CHECKING RMS OF SERVO'S

This is useful to get a good picture of how the servo systems of the telescope are performing.

  1. In the TCS window, type rms servo on
  2. After a couple of minutes of the telescope tracking, type rms servo off
  3. A list of the servo's performance will be displayed.
