Telescope Planned Preventative Maintenance
Every Day

Check all telescope equipment and current instrumentation fuctions correctly.
This is done by the Ops Team.

Check the fault database for faults. This is done by the ops team.
Every Week

Check all panel indicator lamps and replace defective ones

Check that a randomly selected emergency stop button works when the telescope
is tracking

Check all encoders are working during tracking
Every Month

Check the CAMAC crates have a full complement of control cards. Replace
any that are missing.

Check the telescope tracking accuracy. Use siderial time +2
hours and -2 hours. Use declination of 10 and 50. Four readings
in all.

Record all tracking error values in the the log for each position.
Every Three Months

Check oil levels in all telescopes

Check the telescope store spares and order replacement spares
Every Six Months

Check all equipment is secure on the telescopes.

Tighten all screws on the control racks on the telescope
Every Year

Check all cabinets and control equipment visually
-
Clean all air vents and filters on the electronic racks and motors.

Check that all cooling fans on electronic equipment are running.
Replace defective ones

Check all emergency stop buttons work when the telescope is tracking.

Check all safety equipment on the telescopes work. For example, safety
gates.
When Required

Aluminise mirrors

Change motor brushes

Clean linear enocoders
