Some Details Regarding WYFFOS

WYFFOS is a fast, embedded CCD camera which is to be installed on the WHT early next year to undertake multi-object spectroscopy. Light for the instrument is being relayed by AUTOFIB, an automated fibre positioner designed in Durham by Ian Parry et al.

We have been undertaking a series of tests to establish its cold performance and the deatils of how the mechanics of this would interact with any alignement of the optics. The picture below illustrates an example of the temperatures we have measured in the system at 3 locations in the cold path. The cryostat is an Oxford Instruments 4 litre dewar. The Temperature Servoing is accomplshed by heat input from a 3W 100 ohm resitor mounted on the back of the chip block and the temperature is monitored using a Platinum Resistance Thermometer...
