1. Summary

This document summarises the changes made to the latest version in the W16 release tree of the WHT Telescope Control System, W16-1-0, to produce the release tree W17.

4. Deliverables and Installation

• The CMS classes necessary to build TCS versions in the W17 release tree are defined in Section 8, they are also defined in the version files in [WHT_LOGIN.VERSION].
• CMS libraries containing the source code for the TCS, the PLOT and CAMTEST utilities, and the build procedures are held on LPAS3; the root directory for the CMS libraries is defined by the logical name SOURCE_DIR.
• The release notes document for the W17 release tree (this document) is stored in ~docs/tcs/whtrel/tcs-whtrel-17/tcs-whtrel-17.html

5. Reasons for release

W17-1-0

New features

• Allows simultaneous use of TCS from DECnet and DRAMA.
• The login window disappears once the TCS has been started.
• TELD is started from a detached process.
• TELD messages are logged to a file.
• The COMMS command has been removed as it is no longer needed.

Defects fixed

• None.

W17-2-0

New features

• Focus encoder(s) are added to the encoder log.

Defects fixed

• DR 14503 ICL commands that move mechanisms now complete correctly.

• Longitude is now correctly negative in the headers

6. Known problems and restrictions

Defect reports outstanding

• FR 13160, 14719 : Alpha crashed after CLONE command
• FR 13447 : Cannot do a target zeroset on the tape encoders
• FR 13640, 14471 : aperture offsets seem to complete before rotator in position
• FR 13668 : cancelling DRAMA command to TCS with CTRL-C can stop the telescope
• FR 13882 : AGVIEW does not work at WHT Prime
• FR 14069 : ISIS - possible inaccuracy in rotator offset in TCS code
• FR 14386 : Prime - tracking oscillations not corrected by autoguider
• FR 14527 : rotator jumps by 400 arcsec when azimuth reverses (par ang 90 & 270)
