Mounting of NFS partitions on the TCS Alphas ============================================ In case there is a repeat of the problems with NFS server viss04, we should be aware that the /wht partition is mounted on the TCS alpha (lpas4). After recovery of the NFS problems it would be good to alert operations or the Telescope Operator that action is needed. If the /wht partition is not mounted then the header for the TCS cannot be written to /wht/var and one sees that data is missing from the log. In addition the operator won't be able to INCLUDE user catalogues from /wht/cat Options for mounting the /wht partition are: 1) Shutdown the TCS (with TCSEXIT) and start it again 2) Use the NFSMOUNT option from the menu 3) Log in to a privileged account such as SYSTEM 4) Reboot the alpha with the SHUT account Option 1 is the most familiar for operations staff while option 2 saves having to restart the TCS. Details for option 2: -------------------------- Log into lpas4 as WHT_LOGIN with usual password This is the WHT TELESCOPE CONTROL SYSTEM The TCS is running, using version W52-1-2 Please enter an option - STOP - Stop the TCS TELD - Start the TELD task RESTART - Restart the TCS user and display windows Info display on fjgpc2.ing.iac.es USER window on fjgpc2.ing.iac.es DISPLAY - Select different display devices NFSMOUNT - Mount the ICS Unix partition EXIT - Exit this menu and log out Option> NFSMOUNT The mount is performed and the session logged out. I recommend checking that TCS headers are now being collected. Details for option3: ------------------------- This is for system administrators. Log into lpas4 as SYSTEM Show the mount $ ucx sho mount _DNFS2:[000000] mounted viss04.roque.ing.iac.es:/export/whtubuntu Dismount $ ucx dism _DNFS2: In case of problems dismounting try $ UCX DISMOUNT /ALL Mount using command below (this doesn't stop or start the TCS). @sys$manager:tcs_startup.com Details for option 4 ------------------------- This is for use in case all other options have failed. Shutdown the TCS with TCSEXIT Telnet into lpas4. Log in as SHUT with the well known password. Reply YES to the questions Do you really want to shutdown node LPAS3 [NO]? Should an automatic system reboot be performed [NO]? Otherwise the defaults are OK. When the alpha is up again (this can take up to 10 minutes) start the TCS as normal. These notes are for the WHT and lpas4. The procedure is similar for the INT and lpas2. The /int partition is mounted from jupiter as shown below. $ ucx sho mount _DNFS2:[000000] mounted jupiter.ing.iac.es:/mnt/cyan/toptree/int Frank Gribbin 19 Apr 2017 Version 1.0 Extracted from email to computing staff of 12 Apr 17
