rspeed command

This page is part of the ING manual INS-DAS-29 Operations manual for UltraDAS.

Function:

Rspeed sets the camera to one of two readout speeds. All subsequent observations use this speed until rspeed is run again, CCD binning is requested, or the camera is restarted.

Usage:

   rspeed [<camera>] fast
   rspeed [<camera>] slow

Notes and caveats:

Each camera has only two speeds. The actual readout rate in pixels per second may vary widely, such that slow for one camera gives a faster rate than fast for another.

If binning greater than 1x1 is switched on, the speed may change. Binning may not be possible at full speed, and the system will compromise the speed in preference to rejecting the binning command. The speed is restored to its former value if the binning is switched back to 1x1. (This is a significant change from former systems at ING.)

Changing speed also changes the gain of digitisation and hence affects the dynamic range of the camera.. There is no separate command to change gain.
