FTP Server
The ING FTP Server (ftp.ing.iac.es) is available for both staff and
visitors. Uploads to the server are not allowed,
however ING users may telnet to the server and copy files to the
~ftp/pub/outgoing directory for downloading. Its is requested that
such files be copied to a sub-directory whose name is the same as the username.
The Service Area
Service data can be found in the /pub directory. In this directory there are three sub-directories called WHT, INT and JKT. Your service data will be in the directory which corresponds to the appropriate telescope where the data were acquired.
On-The-Fly Compression and Archiving
The FTP server is configured to allow on-the-fly (OTF) compression and archiving either compresses or creates a TAR file of the data before downloading. In some cases the data may be archive and then compressed OTF for downloading.
For OTF archiving of files and directories, tar is available. Simply add the extension .tar to the directory that you are downloading.
For more information on compression see this.
Note
Please note that the "ls" command will only list files and not directories. To obtain a complete listing of the directory use the command "ls -a" or "ls -al".
