The networker program backs up almost all the unix systems on site. The exceptions are currently lpss3 and the solaris machines. The backup process takes a long time so we start it at night. It often requests volume changes too. Unfortunately having these tapes in a user-accessible drive means we soemtimes have accidents like the one reported below.

A dual DAT drive with a locking door on lpss1 would allow the CFG to do backups through the night without loss or intervention to change volumes.

Peter,

last night I accidentally wrote tar files to tape RoqueIncr.11 which was is the tape drive for lpss1. I thought I was on lpss2 at the time!

I also rewound the tape and re-did the tar, so I don't knwo what problems this causes.

I hope none

sorry.
