Forwarding VMS mail to your unix account

In the following example the unix account is smith.

In your VMS account type the following

$ mail
MAIL> set forward "smtp%""smith@ing.iac.es"""
MAIL> show forward
forward has been set to SMTP%"smith@ing.iac.es"
MAIL> exit
Be VERY careful to type the correct number of double quotes on the SET FORWARD command - there are SIX ie ONE then TWO then THREE at the end.

When you type show forward you should see TWO and the destination should appear in lower case. If you have problems ask GFM or PVDV to assist.

If you get an unexpected result from the SHOW FORWARD output then disable forwarding and start again

MAIL> set noforward
MAIL> show forward
DO not enable forwarding to the sparc if the sparc is already forwarding to the VAX! If you do so your mail will bounce between the machines for a day then be returned to the sender undelivered.
