There have been a number of problems with the modem line 922 405575 and
in response to that a number of changes have and are being made to provide
a better service.
Note It is generally more reliable to access the Roque via one
of the SLO modem numbers . Only if this is unavailable
should you dial Roque numbers.
A modem is now installed at the Roque site on 922 405636which provides
a more stable connection.
This line provides a dial back facility to listed individuals.
Note that this line provides a Decnet connection at a maximum server speed
of 9600bps. even though the line speed can run at up to 14400 baud.
VT100 Terminal Connection to
the Roque
You Require a Terminal Emulator such as Kermit configured
for VT100 emulation.
Make a connection by typing command ATDT922405636
(tone dialing) or ATDP922405636 (Pulse dialing) or use a script, see your
terminal emulation application software manuel.
For call back your PRIMARY PASSWORD is your 6 digit home telephone
number. After entering your primary password the modem will disconect you
and then call you back. You will then be requested for a SECONDARY PASSWORD
which is your Surname in uppercase. On pressing the"enter" key
you should recieve a normal Decserver prompt.
For those users who do not possess digital exchanges and have problems
on being rung back. This is sometimes caused by your local exchange not
hanging up the line before the callback is initiated causing your line
to appear busy. If you suffer this problem then you should try issuing
a command to your modem, immediatly on disconnection after entering your
PRIMARY PASSWORD, to hang up your local line. Most modems respond
to ATH0 .
For those without dial back then in reply to the PRIMARY and SECONDARY
password prompts you should use the password "access" to both. At
which point you will be connected to the Decserver prompt.
to connect to the vax type: C LPVF or C LPVG
At the Username prompt if you want a service other than the VAX then then
type the service name you require i.e. lpss1otherwise
connect to the VAX in the normal way using your vax username and password.
If you typed a service name at the username prompt you will be logged on
to the vax and then a telnet session to the service you specified will
be created giving you the logon prompt for that service.
To terminate your connection close and logout of your session and sub-sessions
back to the Vax terminal server prompt. Type your modems escape code usually
three '+' signs in quick succession. You should in most cases get a response
from the modem of 'ok'. To close your connection you should now type ATH0
to hang up your telephone line. If your terminal emulator does this for
you then use that.

To obtain a session on your account at the Roque
or SLO use telnet
This gives a suitable connection for Email and data
transfers using Kermit, Zmodem etc.
Termination of connection is automatic by logging
out of your sessions and sub-sessions.
PPP Network Connection
to the SLO
You will require TCP/IP and PPP software, this is
packaged in Windows 95, Linux, OS2 Warp. For Windows 3.* you will require
an add on such as trumpet.
The easyiest way of configuring your WIN95 software
for your PC is to install/configure Internet Explorer, this will install
your modem if neccessary and configure your software for TCP/IP, just follow
the prompts.
The modem asignes an IP address and provides DNS
and gateway information so you do not have to.
To configure a dial up connection select 'Start'
choose 'Programs', 'Accessories', 'Dial-Up Networking', Select
'Make New Connection', From here you should follow the prompts and
you will quickly be on the internet.
Those using software other than Win95 will have to
configure their software to enable dialback and use scripts that can deal
with the type of prompts given by the Shiva modems, otherwise initiate
connections manually using the info as for VT100 shell type connections.
