¿ How Is This Information Collated ?

These lists do not reflect the IP numbers that have been officially allocated by the CFG. However, they do relect the following :

For IP numbers that are in use

  • 1. A device with this IP number has, since the 17 th June 1999, responded to a ping and there was a MAC address associated with this IP number.
  • 2. Whether the IP number has a DNS entry.

    • For IP numbers that are not in use

  • 1. A device with this IP number has never responded to a ping since the 17 th June 1999.

    • This information is obtained from a script which pings all the IP numbers (for 1 to 255) in all the subnets that are owned by the ING. The script is executed via the crontab on "scorpio" (for the ORM subnets) and on "weldon" (for the SLO subnets). The program is scheduled to run once every hour, on the hour.
