Aliases

An alternative name for this device. Usually the device name alone will suffice and thus no aliases would be required. A maximum of three aliases may be defined.

Architecture

Specify the architecture for this device.

Britannia Number

A unique, six-character number that identifies this device. Britannia Numbers are usually issued by Administration but under certain circumstances may be issued by the CFG. Numbers above 900 000 indicate that the device does not belong to the ING.

CD ROM

Check this box if the device is fitted with a CD ROM drive.

Contact

The main contact for this device.

CPU Make

The make of the CPU within this device.

CPU Speed

The speed of the CPU within this device.

CPU Type

The type of CPU within this device.

Date Acquired

The date that the device was acquired.

Device Type

Select the type of hardware that best describes this piece of equipment.

Device Name

The device name as issued by the CFG. This name will appear in the DNS.

Floor

State the floor on which this device resides.

IP Number

The Internet Protocol number for this device. This is a unique number, that must be assigned by the CFG, and is used to identify this device on the network. Each network interface card should have a different IP address. A maximum of two IP numbers may be defined.

Floppy

Check this box if the device is fitted with a floppy drive.

Make

Select the make of the hardware.

MAC Address

The Media Access Control address is a unique number that identifies each node on a network. This address is usually not user-configurable. A maximum of two MAC addresses may be defined.

Model

Select the model of the hardware.

OS

Specify the operating system for this device.

RAM

The amount of physical memory within this device.

Room

State the room within which this device resides.

Serial Number

Specify the serial number for this device.

SNMP

Check this box if the device is configured with SNMP.

Status

There are six options available here:

     If this device is a backup for another piece of equipment and is not currently attached to the network, then select the BACKUP option.
     If this device is installed on the network then select the INSTALLED option.
     If this device is a spare for another piece of equipment and is connected to the network, then select the SPARE option.
     If this device has been removed from the network, then select the REMOVED option.
     If this device is off-site, then select the OFF-SITE option.
     If this device is mobile (e.g. a notebook), then select the MOBILE option.

Site

State the site where this device is located.
