Section 1 : Preparation (Day Before)

Check that GHRIL is prepared:

  1. Internal inspection of WYFFOS.
  2. Check engineering schedule.  Set-up WYFFOS for correct mode (reflection or echelle).
  3. Check WYFFOS CCD is prepared and cold, pump if required.
  4. Ensure clear access is available for WYFFOS grating.
  5. Check WYFFOS is operational and all maintenance etc is complete.
  6. Check WYFFOS Calibration Unit is operational and all maintenance etc is complete.
  7. Make sure that both  AF2PC's are switched on and that CFG has carried out a sanity check on both PC's
  8. Make sure that the Interconnect module and  power amplifier rack are fitted.
  9. Connect the AF2 cable loom from prime to the Interconnect module and AF2 power amplifier rack.
  10. Connect the AF2 power amplifier rack to the Interconnect module.
  11. Connect Gripper TV BNC   to Linux Power PC  connector on video in cable.
  12. Connect the video out BNC to Gripper monitor BNC that goes to  No.82 on the patch panel
  13. Connect portserver port 8  to Prime port 2 on the patch panel.
Check that the Prime Focus Unit is prepared:
  1. Check that the  Prime Focus Unit is in its handling trolley and ensure that the prime focus instrument platform PFIP has been removed
  2. Ensure the lifting frame is correctly balanced for lifting the Prime Focus unit.
  3. Check AF2

Check that the Fibre Module is prepared:
  1. Find the aluminium box containing the fibre module in the WHT drum ground floor and move the box to the aluminising area.
  2. Find a table and a magnifying lamp. The lamp may be borrowed from the detector lab.
  3. Open the box and undo the 4 M10 bolts.
  4. Fix the the fibre outlet box onto its aluminium store yoke.
  5. With at least 2 more persons lift the fibre module onto the table, with the fibres upwards.
  6. Fix the magnifying lamp onto the table.
  7. Check each fibre on:
    1. Damaged prism
    2. Twisted prism
    3. Loose magnet.
    4. Displaced magnet holder or shark vin
  8. Carefully lift each fibre of the surface to test the magnets strenght.
  9. Then put all the fibres into a circle on the edge of the blank metal surface.
  10. Clean the blank metal surface carefully with propanol.
  11. Get a can of WD40 (or something similar), spray a bit on a cloth and apply it very lightly to the blank metal surface. This is to prevent the surface from oxidizing.
  12. When finished put the unit back into its alu. box.

Check that the equipment is ready for lifting:
  1. Remove AF2 Robot from its handling trolley and put it in its lifting frame.
  2. Prepare AF2 Robot and the small fibre module for lifting up to the dome area in the morning.
Check Ancillary equipment:
  1. Check you have a working autoguider AG2 head and controller.
  2. Check you have a working TV camera AG1 and controller.
  3. Locate swans neck and CCD controller racks.
  4. Check that all cables are accounted for.
Check lifting equipment:
  1. Two one tonne strops and shackles required.
  2. Looking down from AP3. Place the following trolleys on the ground floor to the right of the telescope. Secondary Lifting Trolley and frame, Prime Focus Unit, AF2 robot in its handling trolley.
Check control room is prepared:
