ING Bookings for Visiting Observers

Each visitor observer MUST fill in the information requested in the form below. Please submit the form at least a week before accessing to any ING facility.

Only members of the observing team can be present at ING telescopes during observing, and only they can be accommodated at the residencia. Exceptions to this rule require the explicit authorisation of the ING Director. If authorised, an ING booking should then be made.

Note that the ING sea-level office is responsible for making the visiting observers' bookings, and it is open from 8:30 to 15:00 Monday to Friday.

ING administration will request a scanned copy of your DNI or passport along with a consent to process (using this data-protection form). This copy will be treated by ING as confidential, and will be seen only by authorised ING administration staff.

Travel to/from La Palma and accommodation

It is the observers' own responsibility to arrange the travel to La Palma. La Palma is a holidays destination so please make your bookings well in advance, especially during peak periods such as Carnival, Easter and Christmas when flights are heavily booked, and in July in years ending in 0 or 5 (when the Bajada de La Virgen, a big festival, takes place in Santa Cruz de La Palma). More information on accommodation and traveling.

Transport to/from the Observatory

Preferred transport to the observatory site is by a taxi booked by ING.
Please bear in mind that bad weather can restrict the access to the observatory. In these conditions ING activates the bad weather procedure (an announcement is posted on the ING home page), which means that the taxi can't get to the observatory's residencia before 09:15am and the way down must be done in daylight. Due to these restrictions, or if the observatory is unreachable, you might have to stay longer at the observatory's residencia. Read more on traveling to and from the observatory site.

Driving at the Observatory

Observing teams on each of the telescopes could be issued with an ING vehicle for driving on site between the telescope buildings and the IAC's Residencia. Please note that only people over 25 and a two year-old driving license are allowed to drive one of the ING vehicles on site.
