Title:
Probing Shocked Structures in Outflows from Galactic Nuclei & YSO with the SOAR AO System

Abstract:
CTIO has designed a ground-layer turbulence
compensating system as a 2nd-gen instrument for the SOAR 4.1m telescope.
Its 1-2 arcmin corrected fov is well matched to large-scale outflows from
starburst and AGN-driven winds, and from young-stellar objects. Such
studies are inherently multifrequency, with critical optical/NIR data
coming from HST. Multi-epoch data are required on YSO\'s. I summarize
open questions on outflow dynamics and how they will be addressed post-HST
by 3d spectrometers on this AO system. I also outline other AO interests
of the SOAR partners.
