First light for NAOMI The WHT adaptive-optics system NAOMI was commissioned at the GHRIL focal station in Sep 2000 by a team from Durham/ATC. NAOMI/INGRID delivers near-diffraction-limited imaging in J, H and K bands (FWHM 0.13 arcsec in K), with scale 0.04 arcsec/pixel. NAOMI performance figures and further details are given (and a commissioning image is reproduced) on the ING AO web page: http://www.ing.iac.es/~crb/wht/ao.html Information about the detector can be found on the INGRID web page: http://www.ing.iac.es/Astronomy/instruments/ingrid/index.html Until the commissioning data are fully analysed, we recommend that the guide star for each target (which can be the target itself) have magnitude V < 12. With further commissioning, e.g. of other readout modes for the wavefront sensor, it is expected that guide stars up to 3 mag fainter will be usable. Proposals requiring the use of fainter guide stars are acceptable, but if allocated time will be backed up by the time-allocation committee. Enquiries about performance and other issues can be addressed to Chris Benn (crb@ing.iac.es) or Andy Longmore (ajl@roe.ac.uk). ING is happy to provide pre-submission technical appraisal of proposals. ============================================================= * To unsubscribe from [INGNEWS] send to majordomo@ing.iac.es the command "unsubscribe ingnews" in the body of the message.
