System checks

Normally the detector should have been mounted so that with the wideband collimator and no focal modifier lens, the collimator focus is close to the middle of range. If there is time it is sensible to use a Hartmann test to check the focus of the spectrograph before the start of each nights observing. How to do this is described in section 35.

The performance of UES is constantly monitored. Various quality control procedures are carried out at the start of each run. The Support Astronomer will ensure that the QUALITY CONTROL procedures detailed in the UES QUALITY CONTROL folder are carried out.
