Altering existing user information (temporarilly)

Address information can be altered by simply running ADDRESS_INFO again in menu mode, or by explicitly (re)defining selected items in command mode. Any item can be changed; however, if the user's institute is altered, and the new name is as yet unknown, additional institute information will be required; see above.

It can sometimes be useful to redefine address information for the current ARCQUERY session only. Suppose a previously registered user logs onto the captive account from another node and account than specified in the original address information. For instance, she or he is observing and wants to query the archive to check on previous observations. The address information can be modified temporarilly, for this session only, in order to direct mail output to the user's temporary computer account.

To change the address is straightforward: one can simply change the institute specification, if the current user's site is included in the database, or one can use a `virtual' institute name to redefine the E-mail addres. For instance, a visitor at the La Palma observatory site, can redirect ARCQUERY output to the mountain with e.g. :

ADDRESS/NOREQUEST institute="ING", host="LPVE", user="GUEST07"

or, alternatively, with:

ADDRESS/NOREQUEST institute="INTERNET", host="LPVE.ING.IAC.ES", user="GUEST07"

The /NOREQUEST qualifier serves to suppress the otherwise automatic prompt for the submission of a request. The changed address disappears when ARQUERY is terminated without save of the query context; then, on next login, the original address information applies again. If the context is saved on exit, the changes can be restored on next logon.

If you are a frequent traveller, it may be useful to define address changes as symbols in your intialization file on the captive account (see below).

The original address information can be restored from the database during an ARQUERY session, by typing:

ADDRESS/NOREQUEST institute=*, host=*, user=*
