We visited Bob Leach to learn more about his work on CCD controller development. His system can drive up to 8 CCDs and incorporates an AT&T fibre optic-link for data transfer, this operates at 700ns/pixel which results in about a 40MHz data transfer rate. The system is based around two, 56000 DSP devices which have 512, 24-bit memory space on them. The cost (at the time of writing) for a complete board set, enabling a CCD to be read from 1 port is $10K. Further details will not be discussed in the current report.
