AUTOGUIDER

The autoguider is a FW130 deflectable photomultiplier with a S-20 photocathode which moves on encoded x-y slides. In front of the autoguider are two filter wheels containing colour and neutral density filters of varying thickness. The autoguider can not be focussed remotely and the filters are used to correct the optical path to the autoguider when CCD filters and/or the grism are being used in front of the CCD.

Operation of the autoguider is described more fully in II.6.3

The main command in this section is FINDSTAR and the remaining commands will not normally be used unless, for instance, a previously known guide star is to be found again. The TV sees stars to V 15 in direct mode but stars must be brighter than this for autoguiding.
