Names of detector channels

The DAS associates most commands with a single detector. The hardware and software supporting this detector is known collectively as a detector channel, and the name of the channel is a required parameter for most commands. Rather than name channels after individual detectors ( e.g. EEV3, IPCS) which tend to move around from focus to focus, fixed names derived from the foci and instruments are used. Thus, data from the red arm of Isis are acquired on channel RED, while data from the Cassegrain auxiliary port go to channel AUX. Commands to a channel that is not active will be rejected.

The full set of channel names is shown in Table 1.1.
