AF2/WYFFOS Quick Notes
More detailed information on working with AF2 can be
found on the main AF2 TO
page and on the 'First
Night' page. This page is intended to give Quick access to AF2 info for the
experienced TO/user. This is the first draft of the page, if there is anything
else you would like to see here please mail me (cardwell@ing.iac.es ).
Useful Info
- Rotator Range:
-163.37...193.63
- Focus: 82.5 (now good for AF2 and TV)
- Mobile Probe FOV: 20' by 30'
- Fiducial Fibre FOV: 8" (central ring of mask: 1.6")
- AF2
Command manual
Setup
- USER> STATION PRIME
- USER> INSTRUMENT AUTOFIB
- USER> AGSELECT AF2_TV
- Zeroset as normal.
- TV: Go to SAOimage DS9 Zoom menu and set 90
deg and Invert Y to map TCS arrow keys to
screen.
- Autoguider: Go to SAOimage DS9 Zoom menu and set Invert Y and
0 deg to map TCS arrow keys to screen.
Centres of the Fiducial Fibres
- Load the region file containing the most recent map of the fiducial fibres
(if necessary).
- TO> wcallamp 4
(turn on the lamp to illuminate the fibres)
- Update the map of the fiducial fibres.
- TO> wcallamp off
Acquiring a Field
- Set sky PA (USER> rot sky xxx)
- Point to field centre.
If the astrometry used for the configuration and the telescope pointing are
good then some of the guide stars should be visible in the fiducial Fibres.
Adjust telescope pointing and rotator position with handset to acquire. If you
can't see and guide stars try the long
acquisition procedure.
- TO> af2 sleep (if the observer forgets to do it)
Guiding
- Select well centered fiducial fibre near field centre.
- Set integration time and guide box size.
- Select 'guide on pixel' and give x y.
- If an error message is triggered try doing USER> auto on x y and start
guiding again on autoguider GUI.
Acquiring Standard Star onto Science
Fibre
- USER> rot sky xxx
- USER> gocat STARNAME
- TO> af2 offsettel SKYPA STARNAME SCIENCEFIBRENR
- Answer 'yes' and centre the star on the GRIPPER centre
- TO> af2 sleep
Taking Arcs
The observer will take the arcs but remember to offset the telescope or close
the mirror petals or else they will record spectra from both the lamp AND their
science objects.
