JKT DAS Startup Procedures

If the power is removed from the JKT DAS or if the system has been closed down for some reason these are the procedures to follow. There is one procedure to start up the DAS system computer lpss12, and another procedure to start up any of the other sparcs.

To start up lpss12

To start any of the other sparcs eg lpss11

If switching on the whole system bring up lpss12 first and then the sparcs individually (in any order).

Unix computers (eg Sun sparcs) must never be turned off - always follow the procedures - otherwise disk corruption can occur.

Because the DataCell card driver has a bug the DAS computer lpss12 must be turned off at the mains whenever it is rebooted see powering off lpss12.

The sparc mains switches are located at the back right hand side top. They can be switched on by this button or the keyboard key top right marked with a circle and vertical line.

If there has been a UPS failure or other mains disruption -

To start up lpss12

lpss12 must be powered off at the mains before reboot and the correct procedure followed.

  1. Ensure that the fox rack is switched off (located below sparc lpss12).
  2. Switch on the disks and DAT drives and wait a minute while they come up to speed.
  3. Switch on and power up the sparc lpss12.
  4. Wait for lpss12 to complete its boot cycle. Watch the screen for any errors.
  5. Switch on the fox rack below lpss12.
  6. Restart the DAS observing system as described in the users manual.
  7. Take some images to make certain all is OK.
