Visa Assistance for Observers Using the AAT and UK Schmidt Telescopes

Observers wishing to use the AAT and Schmidt Telescopes who do not hold an Australian Passport must obtain the appropriate visa to enter Australia.

In the United Kingdom, PPARC Swindon Office can provide a letter addressed to the Chief Immigration Officer at the Australian High Commission in London or an Australian Consulate, to assist with obtaining a visa. The letter refers to the Anglo-Australian Telescope Agreement which says that, subject to current immigration policies, the Commonwealth Agreement will facilitate entry to Australia for persons having access to the telescopes.

You will need to provide your full name, passport number with expiry date. the date and duration of your trip and whether or not the visa will be required for multiple visits.

Observers wishing to obtain such assistance should contact : Judith Hemsley, Astronomy Division, PPARC, Polaris House, North Star Avenue, Swindon SN2 1SZ, Wilts. Telephone 01793 442091 or e-mail Judith_Hemsley@pparc.ac.uk.
