Telescope Time Applications for Semester 97A

The following list of instruments and facilities are expected to be available for Semester 97A (February-July 1996) Applications should be made in units of whole nights for the WHT, and whole weeks for the INT and JKT (but see the note on Service-Queue below). The instrumentation is described in the 1995 edition of the Observers' Guide, available both in hardcopy and on the ING information pages of the WWW (http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~lpinfo/).

For this and subsequent semesters, applications for time on all telescopes must be submitted by electronic mail. See the announcement below.

(1) Applicants for TAURUS direct imaging must justify their choice of instrument in the technical justification section.

(2) Potential applicants for MARTINI-3 should contact the project scientist, Dr R M Myers (r.m.myers@durham.ac.uk), as this instrument is available on a collaborative basis only in Semester 97A (see below).

(3) After commissioning of the Prime Focus Mosaic Camera this will be unavailable. This is expected to occur at some point during Semester 97A

(4) Commissioning of the PF Mosaic Camera is scheduled for January 97. At the time of writing (31 July) the availability of the complete set of four science Loral CCDs and the autoguider CCD for this time slot is not known. It seems likely that it will be commissioned with a minimum of two or three science CCDs plus the autoguider CCD.

With the Mosiac PF camera, only broadband (UBVRIZ) and a H-alpha 6563A filter will be available. Further filters may be purchased at a latter stage.

Prospective users for Semester 97A are advised to contact Nic Walton (naw@ing.iac.es) or Pete Bunclark (psb@ing.iac.es) for further information nearer to the PATT 30 September deadline for 97A. Details will also appear on the ING web server (http://ing.iac.es)

The Faint Object Spectrograph on the INT has temporarily been taken out of service due to failure of its detector. FOS-1 on the INT as well as FOS-2 on the WHT will be upgraded with new thinned, high QE and small pixel CCDs.
