ING UK PATT Applications
The deadline for submission of proposals for the A-Semester (1st February
to 31st July)
is midnight GMT, 30th September, and for the B-Semester
(1st August to 31st January) is midnight GMT, 31st March.
Note that late submissions are not accepted.
You must submit your application on the latest version of the PATT2 form, version 02/2000.
The PATT2 form template, style-files and an example form are contained in the tar file PATT2_Pack.tar. Copy this tar file to your local computer, and unpack it using the Unix command tar xvf PATT2_Pack.tar. The tar file contains six files:
Font sizes should not be reduced from the style-file defaults; proposals written in a smaller font will not be accepted. The PATT2 style-file, patt2.sty, and if used, the PostScript style-files psfig.sty and epsf.sty, should not be edited; applications are processed with the original versions of the style-files.
If you include figures with your application, they should be located in the working directory, i.e. do not put a local path to figures in your application form. This path would not, of course, be recognised on our system when your proposal is processed. PostScript figures larger than ~1.5MByte should not be submitted. Instead, include a URL in your proposal pointing to such figures, so that they can be viewed by referees and assessors.
LaTeX your proposal and ensure that it processes correctly, and display it using xdvi or dvips to check its appearance, correct location of figures and so on. When you are satisfied, send the completed proposal as a LaTeX source file together with any PostScript figures to:
ingpatt@ing.iac.es
Preferably, send your proposal and figures as email attachments. If you do send figures in the email body however, ensure you put the name of each figure PostScript file in the Subject line of the email, so that it can be named correctly for processing at ING.
On submitting your proposal, you will receive an automatic acknowledgement, and within a few days you will receive confirmation that it has been processed, and a PATT reference number. Quote this reference number in any future correspondence concerning your proposal.
Applicants are reminded that to encourage proposals for larger time allocations, both single-semester and long-term, on the WHT, the PATT2 application form allows a two-page scientific justification for WHT proposals of six or more nights.
NAOMI applicants are encouraged to check the NICMOS data archive before submitting applications.
Signal may be used to calculate exposure times for any telescope-instrument-detector combination.
The following moonlight diagrams will be useful in helping you plan your observations.
