The AUTOFIB2 system currently uses the large 2.7 arcsec diameter fibre module. Currently 110 fibres are available with this module including 9 guide fibres. The positioning accuracy of the fibres is currently approx. 0.40 arcsec (25 microns). Further tests during commissioning in Semester 1996A are expected to yield improvements in this positioning accuracy. The magnitude limit of the guide fibres is B=16.
Although most of the program fibres have the predicted transmission (75%-80%), a few (20%) have significantly poorer response than expected. The relative fibre transmissions (as of Aug 1995) can be found in this Table.
The magnitude limit for the moveable coherent bundle on the robot is V=17, while that for the fixed coherent bundle is V=18.
The typical time to acquire a new field is 30 minutes-- 20 minutes to place the fibres on the field plate, and 10 minutes to center the guide stars.
