Optical table

The UES is assembled on an optical table, supplied by Photon Control Ltd. The table rests on a support frame, which in turn locates on the four instrument mounting pads on the Nasymth platform; the weight of the instrument (approx 5 tonnes) is thus carried by the instrument mounting pads, which are mechanically part of the telescope structure, and not by the nasmyth platform.
