Filters and etalons in the collimated beam

When filters are placed in the pupil--plane filter wheel, ghost images can be produced with peak intensities of a few per cent of the real images. In general it is preferable to use filters in the focal--plane filter wheel.

When TAURUS is used in Fabry--Perot mode, the presence of an etalon in the collimated bveam can introduce ghosting at levels as high as 10 per cent. It is however possible to align the etalon either to throw the ghost image well away from the field centre, or to superimpose the ghost on the actual image (see section ?).
