Unambiguous abbreviations, use of upper and lower case

The execution of the ARCQUERY programme is controlled by user-provided commands (either from a VDU or with a mailserver file), consisting of a command name, keyword names and qualifier names. Typing any unambiguous abbreviation of a name is allowed. Often the first two letters are sufficient. An ambiguous or invalid choice results in a repeated prompt when on the captive account; in server mode, the command will be ignored and the next instruction will be processed.

User defined symbols (section ) may not be abbreviated unless they have been defined explicitely with an at the position of abbreviation (DCL-fashion).

Both upper and lower case may be used when typing commands, qualifiers, character strings, etc. Where necessary lower case is automatically converted to upper case.
