Design Options.

There are many designs of large-format chips, almost all with pixels (see table 5).

The most relevant of these devices for our current purposes will now be discussed.

• non-buttable. The original design. Four outputs provided.

• 2-edge buttable. The next evolution. Popular because it allows a mosaic. The chips come in LH (left-hand) and RH (right-hand) variants.

• new 2-edge buttable. Improved design.

• 3-edge buttable. The latest design. Allows butting. Only 2 outputs are provided; frame transfer operation is not available.

• buttable on one (long) edge. A recent design.

• . NOAO have some of these (see later).

There are other designs, particularly of smaller devices that fit on the above wafers.
