Introduction

During 1987 components were manufactured and purchased by the University Observatory, St Andrews under SERC contract SO/792/86 to enable the Richardson Brealey Spectrograph to be used with a CCD camera. In photographic mode the instrument had proven inefficient when compared with other spectrographs equipped with electronic detectors. The modifications allow CCD cameras of the standard RGO design (with kinematic mounting interface) to be mounted onto the spectrograph.

In February 1988 the system was commissioned during a one week allocation of time on the JKT. The changes in the operation of the spectrograph in this mode are described in thisa supplement. Also some data on instrument stability and sensitivity are presented.
