FITSIN

This program is used for reading files back from tape to disk. Tapes should be loaded WITHOUT the write-enable ring fitted.

Files are found on tape in strictly numerical order so you should ensure that the run numbers you require are in ascending order. On loading the tape and issuing FITSIN you are asked which tape deck the tape is mounted on. Then you are prompted for the file numbers (the format for these is similar to the example given in Section 13.4.) and then the corresponding running numbers (if different). If you press <cr> in answer to this then the system will use the tape-file numbers. The running number corresponds to the sequential number of the file on the tape. This may not correspond to the file number allocated by the system for an observation. When the tape has been positioned at the first required file, you will be asked what name you wish to allocate to this file.
