FITSINIT/FITSDIR/FITSOUT/FITSIN/FITSCOPY - FITS tape facilities

FITSINIT initialises a tape ready for the reading or writing of FITS images. FITSDIR lists details of FITS images already on tape. FITSOUT writes a FITS image to tape (it is used by TAPE). FITSIN reads a FITS image from tape to disk. FITSCOPY copies FITS images from one tape to another. For full details see Section 13 of the Appendix to this manual.

Parameters

respond to prompts.

It is important not to fully fill the output data tape with CCD image frames. The copy (or C-tape) may not be of the same length and data could be lost. You are therefore recommended to observe a maximum of 60 GEC CCD frames or 75 RCA CCD frames per tape (at 1600bpi). You can specify on the tape copy request form that your C-tapes are written at 6250 bpi.
