COLD RESTART OF THE PE 3220 CONTROL COMPUTER

The PE 3220 control computer is located in the CLIP centre directly beneath the control room. If there has been a power failure, or the system has hung up irretrievably it is necessary to initialise the computer. To do this, and to subsequently bring the computer to life, follow the instructions given below.

In the CLIP centre ...

  1. Find the consolette on top of the 3220 computer rack and ensure the 'enable/disable' switch is at 'disable'. Press the INIT button on the consolette and then initialize CAMAC crates (see Section 2.5).

    In the control room ...

  2. Go to the control computer system terminal in the control room. On the screen there should be a list of devices followed by

"Device=". Type C13F. It should respond with:

"File=". Type FX163220.LPO being careful to distinguish between zero and letter 'Oh'.

Wait for the message END OF ENVIRONMENT CONFIGURATION.

  3. If the reason for the cold restart was the effects of a power failure, then it is advisable at this stage to follow the instructions of Section 4.4 on the checking of the CAMAC crates.
  4. If things are OK, then you may now join the normal start up procedure at step (3) of Section 4.1 or at step (3) in Section 4.2.
  5. If the "information display" screen (right most screen in the control console) is displaying garbage you will need to reset its controller. This is in the CLIP centre mounted high in the CAMAC crate. It is a blue box with an on/off switch on the back (facing you). Switch it off and on again to reset.
