ING Telescopes

Instrumentation Options 2000A

This page gives an overview of the telescopes and instrumentation options available at the ING telescopes.

This information is revised twice yearly to reflect options available in the forthcoming semster.

The A semester (closing date for applications is the previous September 30th) is for observations in the period 1st February to 31st July. The B semester (closing date for applications is the previous March 31st ) covers the observational period 1st August to 31st January.

Full information on all the listed instruments, including the general ING Observers' Guide, is indexed in the ING Manuals' Home Page. Information on older instruments can still be found on-line in the Obsolete Instruments' section of the Manuals' Home Page.

The WHT instrument-news page replaces the Telescope News section previously found in the Spectrum journal. The PATT application form has been modified to allow a second page for the scientific justification FOR APPLICATIONS TO THE WHT OF 6 OR MORE NIGHTS.

Email links to the instrument specialists are given; please contact them directly if you require further information about any instrument.

This list is valid for Semester 2000A (1st February 2000 - 31st July 2000).

§ Notes

  1. LDSS and TAURUS are no longer offered as common-user instruments - see the ING Newsletter for details.
  2. UES is offered with a choice of SITe or the 2xEEV mosaic, and the long- or short-slit derotator only.
  3. AUTOFIB2 small fibres will be commissioned in Semester 2000A.
  4. NAOMI adaptive optics is expected to be commissioned in Semester 2000A, and a call for Service Proposals will be announced early in the semester.
  5. AUX port imaging is permanently available using CuSO4-U and Harris-BVRI filters only.
  6. Specifications and technical details of all CCD's current at the ING are given on the ING Detectors' technical page.
  7. Full details of all ING filters are given in the Filter Home Page
  8. SIGNAL can be used to calculate exposure times for any telescope/instrument/detector combination.
