ING Instrumentation Options 2007B

This page gives an overview of the instrumentation available on the WHT and INT, and on the TNG as part of the Italian, NL and UK TNG-WHT timeshare programme. It is revised bi-annually to reflect the options offered in each semester; a summary of the time allocation process is also available.

Please email the instrument contact, listed in the tables, if you require further information about any instrument; important notes regarding specific instruments and procedures are given at the bottom of this page.

§ Important Notes
  • Applicants wishing to submit proposals to use a visitor instrument should contact the relevant Instrument Contact in the first instance. Applicants wishing to submit a proposal based on a new (to ING) visitor instrument should follow these instructions.
  • LIRIS slit-mask preparation and manufacture takes approximately two months; PIs awarded time in multi-slit mode are strongly encouraged to initiate the design of slit masks at the earliest opportunity. Details on slit-mask design and timelines are available; please email queries to Mischa Schirmer (mischa@ing.iac.es).
  • AUX port imaging is permanently available using CuSO4-U and Harris-BVRI filters only. Changes to other filters are permitted for runs scheduled specifically for Aux Port Imager.
  • The INT WFC is offered in rotator angle 180 degrees only. When there is compelling scientific justification, other rotator angles (0, 90 or 270-degrees) can be offered for the duration of the run; changes to the rotator angle within a run are not permitted.
  • IDS is offered on the INT with the EEV detector and 235mm camera only, but with the full range of gratings.
  • Specifications and technical details of all CCDs current at the ING are given on the ING Detectors technical page.
  • Full details of all ING filters are given in the Filter Home Page.
  • SIGNAL can be used to calculate exposure times for any telescope/instrument/detector combination.
