WFC operation restrictions

Run length

The minimum run length for the WFC is 4 consecutive nights unless explicity agreed in advance by the Director of ING or the Head of Astronomy. In case agreement was given, you need to mention this in the technical section of your observing proposal.

Filter changes

The WFC filter wheel can hold 6 filters. The filters are put into the filter holder at the start of your observing run. Filter changes during the observing run are strongly discuraged and will only be done on a best effort bases. Observers are not allowed to change filters by themself.

Rotator

We strongly discurage observers to use any other rotator position than the default position
. The WFC rotator can be set to 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees. Intermediate rotator positions are not possible. The default rotator position of the WFC is 180 degrees. You can only use one rotator position for your run.

CCD binning and windowing

CCD binning and windowing of the WFC is not available. While binning may one day be implemented there are no plans to ever implement windowing for the WFC.

Building, Telescope and Instrument

Observers are not allowed to temper with the building (eg. opening windows or doors, changing the setting of the air conditioning, etc.), the telescope or the instrument. Please ask the observatory staff if you think that anything needs changing.
