Plotting mirror shape (MPLOT)
NAOMI technical information · WHT · Astronomy · ING

The mplot program plots the shape of the deformable mirror, i.e. the 3 DAC values in each of the 72 active segments. It can also plot offset files. To plot a mirror file, type cdflat to go the data directory, then mplot, and follow the prompts. The DAC values a, b, c can be plotted in any of the following ways:

If the parameter NORM in the parameter file is set to 0, the program plots each mirror file listed. If NORM = 1, the program instead plots for each mirror file i the differences from mirror shape 1, i.e. DAC values a(i)-a(1), b(i)-b(1), c(i)-c(1). In the colour plots, elements on pass-through (data in mplot.bad) are rendered hashed.

To plot offset files, type cdoff to go to the data directory, then mplot.

Below are some examples.

(NB Durham's FlatPlotter and PlotFlat programs, see the setup and observing recipe for instructions, plot 3D and histogram representations of the flat respectively. FlatPlotter is not working at 12/01.)

Mode 1 - DAC values a, b, c, single mirror flat:

Mode 6 - Mean DAC pistons = (a+b+c / 3), difference between 2 mirror flats:

Mode 2 - DAC tilts a-b, b, c-b, difference between 2 mirror flats:

Mode 3 - DAC tilts a-b, c-b plotted as vector, difference between 2 mirror flats:

Mode 7 - DAC tilts abs(a-b), abs(c-b) plotted as red (0 -> 300) and green (0 -> 300) difference between 2 mirror flats:

Mode 8 - DAC tilts a-b, c-b plotted as red (-300 -> 300) and green (-300 -> 300) difference between 2 mirror flats:

Mode 9 - Mean DAC pistons = (a+b+c / 3) tilts red (positive) and blue (negative) difference between 2 mirror flats:
