Setting The CCD Readout Speed

There are three CCD readout modes from which one can choose. Each mode has different operational characteristics, the most important of these being the CCD full frame readout speed. These characteristics may be found under the SITe2 parameters.

The three readout modes are "Standard", "Quick" and "Turbo". The readout mode may be set by typing the corresponding command on the ICS:

SYS>standard
SYS>quick
SYS>turbo

The CCD status window on the DAS will then change appropriately.

CCD Binning

In standard mode, there is a way of decreasing the readout speed by binning the pixels on the CCD. The default binning is 1:1 where every pixel is used at a pixel scale of 0.33 arcsec/pix. To change the binning to 2:2 (ie: 4 pixels become 1 and the pixel scale becomes 0.66 arcsec/pix), on the ICS type:

SYS>bin 2 2

Please note that whatever readout mode the CCD is in before issuing this command, it will automatically default to "Standard" afterwards. To check that the binning has changed appropriately, look at the CCD status window on the DAS.
