Instrument Availability

Full details of all AAT instruments are available on our Web page. This can be found at either http://www.aao.gov.au/ or http://www.ast. cam.ac.uk/AAO.

All pages referred to below can be found at both the AAO's own page and the Cambridge mirror page. To find the latter simply replace any reference to http://www.aao.gov.au/ with http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/AAO/.

2dF

Commissioning continues to make progress. We currently expect the full system to be operational by October this year. We will still be continuing to improve the performance of the system in Semester 98A however, and therefore observing time awarded for 2dF in that semester will continue to be on a shared risk basis.

2dF now has its own Web page where up-to-date information can be found on the commissioning of the instrument. The page can be found at http://www.aao.gov.au/local/www/2df/. Applicants should note that now commissioning is reaching its final stages, 2dF will be treated like a normal instrument, and we would normally expect observers to be present for their own scheduled time in semester 98A.

The MPE infrared spectrometer 3D will be available again in Semester 98A on the same basis as it was for 97B. We encourage interested applicants to consult the description of the instrument and application guidelines which can be found at http://www.aao.gov.au/local/www/sll/3dnews.html. Further details of the instrument can also be found at http://mpe3d.mpe-garching.mpg.de/3D.html.

Service Time at the AAO

With the reduced allocation to 2dF commissioning the AAO has revived its service program. Full details of the scheme, the instruments available in service, and an application form, can be found at http://www.aao.gov.au/local/www/jmc/service/service.html.
